Qld mum bailed after toddler dies in car

A Townsville mother and her partner have been granted bail after being charged over the death of a three-year-old girl allegedly left in a car in soaring temperatures.

Laura Rose Peverill, 37, and Aaron Danyel Hill, 29, applied for bail in Townsville Magistrate Court on Monday following the toddler's death on Friday.

The pair have been charged with manslaughter.

Police were called to the Townsville University Hospital on Friday afternoon after the girl's mother found the child dead in the car and rushed her to the hospital.

"Unfortunately (this was) a very preventable and unfortunate tragedy," Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Miles earlier told reporters.

"The charge manslaughter indicates that there's been negligence on the part of people responsible for this child's health and wellbeing."

The temperature in Townsville reached 31C on Friday.

Peverill and Hill are expected to appear again in Townsville Magistrates Court on February 23.
