More than half of the 5000 children in State care in WA are Aboriginal. Child Protection Minister Simone McGurk joins The West Live this morning to discuss a new $715,000 trial aimed at addressing the sobering statistic.
Ms McGurk will talk with host Jenna Clarke about how the two-year Aboriginal Family Led Decision Making pilot will look to support collaboration between the government and families at-risk of child protection intervention.
The model will create safe cultural spaces for family and extended family members in how to make the most culturally appropriate decisions for at-risk children.
Ms McGurk will also weigh in on a new report from the Grattan Institute supporting a scheme for childcare that would cost parents $20 a day.
Bureau of Meteorology WA state manager James Ashley will be on to discuss the wild weather which has been lashing the coast and causing havoc for some West Australians.
