The Child Protection Party supports a new approach to child protection processes that is non punitive, transparent, and involves caregivers and families to meet the ‘best interests of the child’ as defined by the Australian Human Rights Commission. Accordingly, we believe that:
- The culture, community, family and extended family of Aboriginal children be a core component of all decision making.
- Where appropriate, children should be able to speak about their wishes.
- To best serve the needs of the many distinct cultural/language groups across the state, Regional Consultative bodies should be established, consisting of local community members to deal with issues relating to children.
