The Child Protection Party is concerned with the poor standard of child protection across Australia. There is not one state who is demonstrating a better understanding of child protection than another. All states are stuck in the same mindset and are unable to conceive of a child protection system apart from the one they currently use.
The Child Protection Party recognises that child protection is an Australia wide issue and is not confined to one State and Territory even though we recognise that some States have greater issues regarding the removal of indigenous children.
Child Protection is everyone’s business.
There is no standardised approach to child protection and there is no singular federal organisation monitoring the practices and effectiveness of services. We acknowledge the good work of the National Children’s Commissioner and State Guardians who offer some insight and feedback to Federal and State Governments. However, they are not mandated with any significant powers to make changes within a Child Protection System which they often criticise.
The Child Protection Party will advocate establishing an organisation who has the power to oversee and change systems and practices which are harmful to children. It has become customary to offer apologies after great harm has been caused to thousands of children. Retribution often comes too late without any effective change to the very system that damaged children.
