Deidre Michell is a Forgotten Australian. One of six children taken into State Care during the 1960s, Deidre spent her childhood in a foster home.
In 1989 at the age of 33, Deidre had what she describes as a breakdown. She was on extended sick leave from work, seeing a counsellor, and trying to work out why she felt incapacitated. What seemed like a particularly bad bout of depression became a time of intense grieving as Deidre finally mourned the loss of her family 30 years earlier.
In this book, Deidre describes the healing process which enabled her to move through the grief and into a new, more fulfilling stage of her life.
Today, Deidre is a teacher and writer.
